Guidance released for sourcing cloud services
New Zealand Government Procurement has released guidance to remind government departments and agencies to be fair to all suppliers when sourcing cloud services.
The guidance is a good reminder of existing rules and procurement frameworks. It also supports best practice. It has handy links to agreements with several providers.
Agencies should:
- set out technical or functional requirements, without referring to vendor or brand-specific services
- identify any constraints in the procurement activity, and
- remain open to receiving responses that can meet them.
Agencies should not:
- include requirements that limit opportunities to specific suppliers or brands.
This approach aligns to the government procurement rules and principles. It means your agency is less at risk of lock-in from a single supplier or branded service.
