Advisory and Business Services – here to help
The Advisory and Business Services team within NZGP offers support to government agencies – from quick questions on procurement, through to supporting development of commercial strategies, and the go-to-market processes.
"Whether we are answering a quick email or spend several weeks with an agency, or one of the team is presenting at a conference – we are here for the public service to help raise procurement capability or to lend a hand with the mahi." Says Craig Butler, Head of Advisory and Business Services.
Craig shares one example of the work his team has been involved in, "Jas Qadir, a Commercial Leader in NZGP, recently contributed to a World Commerce & Contracting panel. They were sharing practical perspectives on effective relationship management. Excellence in contracting requires a thoughtful approach. It rarely happens if you set and forget a contract."
"Business or contractual relationships operate best if they are managed throughout the life of a contract. If not, the drop off in output and potential, represents wasted opportunity at best, and at worst a financial loss." The WCC panel discussion followed a broad spectrum of tips and tools right from using simple but effective tools like data for segmentation, and routines and habits such as checklists to steps on how to build candour, trust, empathy, and responsiveness with suppliers for long-term return on relationship investment. The panel discussed overlap between contract and relationship management, need for common language and consistent terms of reference as key points."
Craig's team is currently helping a number of agencies with their procurement processes spanning the whole procurement cycle. He says, "my team can support preparation of business cases, the commercial strategy, to building, and leading the go-to-market processes. We can also facilitate Lean Agile Procurement which substantially reduces timeframes between ROI and securing the best/preferred supplier."
The team are keen to explore different procurement strategies and piloting new practice, through contributing their wider experience or providing more active support to trying something new. If you need assistance with an upcoming project or just want a chat, email us.
