Agencies achieving broader outcomes through procurement
Government agencies are successfully working to achieve greater public value by including broader outcomes in their procurement opportunities.
Information gathered from mandated agencies in June 2020 indicated around 70% have incorporated broader outcomes relating to increasing access to New Zealand business and reducing emissions and waste into their procurement activity.
Approximately 60% reported incorporating outcomes on improving conditions for New Zealand workers.
While only a small number of agencies undertake construction activities, around 34% of all mandated agencies reported they have incorporated outcomes on construction skills and training.
Approximately 54% identified opportunities that enable a wider range of businesses to access government procurement activities (including small to medium enterprises (SMEs), Māori and Pasifika businesses), while around 52% support training and education opportunities for workers.
These results are very promising and show that agencies support this strategic approach to procurement.
Of the 139 mandated agencies, 120 responded to the report-back questionnaire.
