Construction Sector Accord Beacon Projects
The Construction Sector Accord (the Accord) is a genuine partnership between industry and government that is working to fix many of the issues and challenges facing the construction sector through its three-year Transformation Plan.
The Beacons programme is the shining light of the Transformation Plan, showcasing projects industry-wide that are taking risks and trying new approaches for a better performing sector.
Over the last year, the Beacons team have been engaging with people across the construction industry to find out what good practice is taking place, and how it can be shared to support the Accord objectives and Transformation Plan. Each of the case studies is accompanied by a guide to help others to implement these innovative approaches:
Watercare – partnering for carbon reduction
New Zealand's largest water and wastewater company Watercare is working with its construction partners to build better infrastructure. It has a combined focus on reducing carbon emissions and construction costs, as well as improving health and safety and wellbeing. Watercare has set an ambitious target of a 40 per cent reduction in infrastructure carbon by 2024.
City Rail Link – Progressive Employment Programme
City Rail Link, New Zealand’s largest ever transport infrastructure project, is a 3.45km underground rail link below Auckland’s city centre – expected to be completed in 2024.
To help overcome the industry’s labour and skills shortage, City Rail Link Limited decided to build more than just a rail link, by developing its Progressive Employment Programme.
The programme is part of the infrastructure company’s broader social outcomes strategy and focusses on creating career and employment opportunities, embracing diversity and inclusion, removing employment barriers and supporting better outcomes for Māori and Pasifika.
