First stage of the requirement to use a sustainable building rating system has commenced
The Procurement guide to reducing carbon emissions in building and construction has been revised to include the requirement to use an approved sustainable building rating system for new government owned non-residential buildings from 1 April 2022.
As part of the Carbon Neutral Government Programme (CNGP), Cabinet agreed that procurement mandated agencies must use an approved sustainable building rating system when building a new non-residential government owned building.
The first stage of this requirement now applies to all buildings in scope with a capital value of $25 million and over.
From 1 April 2023, the requirement will apply to all new non-residential government owned buildings with a capital value of $9 million and over.
Sustainable building rating systems support reducing embodied and operational carbon emissions, as well as reducing building and construction waste.
