FY23 government procurement insights released
Government procurement helps support wider social, economic, cultural and environmental outcomes, not just the purchase of goods and services.
We've now published the latest insights into the wider impact of government procurement in 2023.
An increase in agencies and schools using All-of-Government contracts resulted in more savings. This helps New Zealand businesses and social enterprises work with the Government. In the last financial year, New Zealand businesses won over 2,000 contracts advertised on the GETS platform, worth $9.75 billion.
There are now more businesses bidding for government contracts. This increased competition helps local businesses improve their offering while creating more jobs. Government procurement also helps the economy by growing export-capable businesses to compete in the international market.
The New Zealand Government continues purchasing low-emissions and low-waste goods, services and works, highlighted by an increase of 121% in the number of electric vehicles purchased. A 9% decrease in government vehicle CO2 emissions helps New Zealand move toward a net zero emissions economy.
