Public sector property compliance knowledge sharing

One of the roles of Government Property Group (GPG) is to foster collaboration across public sector property professionals and build capability.

Recently, two property compliance workshops were hosted and facilitated by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).

This follows the April Property Knowledge Hour session hosted here at MBIE. The session brought together an audience of agency property specialists to hear about the DIA’s journey to discover whether they were compliant with all of the different legislation that impacts on an agency’s property portfolio.

Property Knowledge Hour: Property – are you legislatively compliant?

The workshops, held in September and October, enabled agencies to discuss processes and lessons learnt, share knowledge and discuss how to develop best practice within all agencies and produce standard documentation. This can be especially helpful for smaller agencies that may not have a dedicated internal property team.

The workshops covered the following topics:

  • Asbestos and Asbestos Management Plans (AMP)
  • Building Warrant of Fitness (BWOFs) and compliance schedules
  • Independent Qualified Persons (IQPs)
  • Seismic ratings
  • Power outages
  • Checklists and guidelines
  • Risks/hazards
  • Environmental resilience
  • Occupancy density

More workshops will be held next year and we will explore in more detail compliance in general, improvements on documentation, and best practice. If your agency property team has questions, or would like to join the next workshop please email us
